MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
I invite you, your children, and your grandchildren to visit the Eolian Hall in Carlton North, which continues to evolve. Notably, we will be celebrating our 100th anniversary in 2025 – less than 12 months away!
We are excited to announce that we have just signed an agreement supporting the exchange of high school students between ISA Conti Eller Vainicher High School in Lipari and Albert Park College in Melbourne – over the next 3 years.
We will update you on further information about the program as it unfolds.
Our activities are intended to promote and share our Aeolian culture and heritage and to provide social functions and cultural experiences for our members and the broader community.
The committee hopes you enjoy our line-up of events and entertainment and wishes you a great day. Have a happy and prosperous new year!
Sam Portelli
President of the Società Isole Eolie
THE FOUNDING OF THE SOCIETÀ ISOLE EOLIE
As an organisation serving and promoting Aeolian culture, the SIE is known to most people as the ‘Isole Eolie Club’ or the ‘Aeolian Club’. When founded in 1925, our charter was to be a social, cultural, and welfare point of reference, aiming to help Aeolian migrants settle in Melbourne, offering them a place to meet, as well as providing moral and financial assistance in times of need.
Today as times change and a newer generation is stepping forward, we have a more general focus operating within the wider Italian community, to retain traditional links with the Aeolian Islands and their rich ties with the sea, while keeping alive, in an Australian social setting, customs, and practices, such as our history, music, arts, Mediterranean cuisine, and renowned pastries.
